Barcelona Sets Condition for New Defender Signing, Lukeba Tops Flick's Options

Barcelona is still evaluating the possibility of bolstering their defense during the summer transfer window, specifically the left center-back position, with Gerard Martin currently the only natural center-back in that role.

According to Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," Barcelona's move to sign a new defender will be linked to the departure of one of their players, as Hans Flick has left the door open for the possibility of Alejandro Balde or Jules Koundé leaving.

Should any player depart, the Catalan club may move to sign a new center-back, with the possibility of adding a left-back also not ruled out. Meanwhile, securing a striker remains a priority for the team, with Julián Álvarez at the top of their list.

French defender Castello Lukeba of Leipzig is a preferred option for Hans Flick to strengthen the backline. The 23-year-old player is contracted with the German club until June 2029.

Lukeba is known for being a left-back, alongside his strength and speed in correcting his defensive position, qualities that Flick is looking for. However, his rising value means that signing him is dependent on the availability of funds in Barcelona's treasury through the departure of one of their players.

The left-back position sees the name of Jorge Salinas, a 19-year-old player from Racing, emerging as a favored option for Barcelona, with a valuation of €16 million.
