Why Real Madrid Shields Santiago Bernabéu from TV Cameras?
Real Madrid is adamant about not allowing television broadcasting companies to begin coverage of its matches from the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium until just two minutes before kickoff, and to continue for only one minute after the match ends.
According to "Mundo Deportivo," Santiago Bernabéu is the only stadium where referees will not speak to television media, amid the possibility of them appearing before and after matches at the broadcasting venues covering La Liga.
Real Madrid's stance is linked to the ongoing dispute between the club and La Liga, as the club relies on Royal Decree No. 5/2015, specifically Article 1.1, to define the scope of audiovisual content that must be made available within the collective marketing of broadcasting rights.
The legal framework stipulates that mandatory broadcasting is limited to audio-visual recording of the sporting event during the two minutes preceding the scheduled start time of the match, and until the following minute after its conclusion.
This scope includes the pitch and the areas visible from it, allowing Real Madrid to retain its right to provide exclusive content through its channel, Real Madrid TV.
The club is also relying on a decision from the Spanish National Court that annulled some provisions of the league's broadcasting regulations, as those provisions exceeded the legally defined temporal and spatial limits.
According to the decision upheld by Real Madrid, La Liga cannot convert content not covered by the legal waiver into obligations imposed on the club under broadcasting regulations.
According to "Mundo Deportivo," conducting interviews with referees at the Santiago Bernabéu remains possible if they take place within the two minutes prior to the match or the minute following its conclusion, and within the legally permitted spatial limits. However, conducting them outside these boundaries requires approval from Real Madrid, which seems challenging given the strained relationship between Javier Tebas and Florentino Pérez.
