Hakimi Protests Lens' Super Cup Victory
Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, captain of the national team and defender for Paris Saint-Germain, expressed his dissatisfaction with the circumstances surrounding his team's match against Lens in the French Super Cup, which ended with Lens claiming the title at the expense of the Parisian club.
Achraf Hakimi expressed his regret for not playing the match in what he considered completely neutral conditions, noting that Paris Saint-Germain gave everything they had to secure the win, but faced circumstances beyond their control.
Achraf Hakimi, 27, stated in an interview with "Ligue 1+": "We did our best to win, and we controlled the match completely, but there were circumstances beyond our control."
A star of Paris Saint-Germain stated, according to reports from "Foot Mercato", that playing the match at a venue he did not consider neutral, along with the absence of PSG fans, affected the atmosphere of the encounter.
He added: "Playing on a pitch like this, not neutral, and without our fans... we should have played under the same conditions. Today, it felt like a match in Ligue 1. These are not excuses."
Hakimi's comments extended beyond the conditions of the pitch and the fans, as he also pointed out that Paris Saint-Germain's preparations for the match were not ideal, given the pressure of fixtures and the absence of several players from training, along with others arriving late.
The captain of the Lions stated: "We played in finals on neutral ground, and now we are playing away from home. But we will continue to work for what is coming."
Hakimi concluded his remarks by pointing out the impact of the busy schedule on the team's preparations, stating: "Some players missed training and arrived late, we played a match on Wednesday (the UEFA Super Cup), and we needed rest. We have to keep working for the upcoming matches."
