Blaïli's Departure Sparks New Issues for Esperance with Algerian Players

Algerian international Youssef Belaïli has backed out of extending his contract with Esperance Tunis, choosing instead to end his journey with the team and return to MC Alger. Youssef Belaïli was close to signing a new contract with Esperance after a preliminary agreement between the two parties, before he unexpectedly changed his mind and chose to return to the Algerian league through Mouloudia Algiers, which has disrupted the club's plans during the current summer transfer window.

The Algerian club announced in an official statement that it has reached an agreement with the player, clarifying that the activation of the contract is linked to the lifting of the sanction imposed on him by FIFA, related to a case concerning documents from his previous stint with French club Ajaccio.

Belaïli's departure was not an isolated case at Esperance, as the club has previously witnessed several departures of Algerian players that stirred controversy, leaving behind complex legal and sporting issues.

In 1991, former Algerian international Milik Zerkan's experience with Esperance ended swiftly, just one week after training began, due to difficulties in adapting to the team's physical pace. He then returned to his previous club, US Monastir.

In the summer of 2022, left-back Elyes Chetti left Esperance a year before the end of his contract, moving to French club Angers.

This transfer has led to a legal dispute between the parties, with Esperance turning to FIFA, which ruled that the club should receive a financial compensation of €970,000, before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the amount to €197,000.

Midfielder Abderraouf Ben Ghaith has unilaterally ended his association with Esperance, preferring to return to Mouloudia Algiers, citing his decision was due to not receiving his financial dues.

Later, the player received a ruling from FIFA's dispute resolution committee granting him compensation of €257,000, which was subsequently upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
