Chelsea Reaches Agreement to Sign Morgan Rogers in Record Deal
Chelsea has reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign English star Morgan Rogers for £117 million, in what is considered one of the biggest transfers in the Premier League. Work is underway to finalize the details of the contract.
According to journalist David Ornstein, the 23-year-old player has agreed to a contract with Chelsea that runs until the summer of 2032, with an option for an additional year, and he is set to undergo a medical on Monday. Rogers has shown a clear desire to move to the "Blues," having been convinced by the club's project under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Arsenal was among the clubs interested in acquiring the services of the English international, but Rogers preferred to join Chelsea, despite being under contract with Aston Villa until 2030.
Rogers is considered one of the brightest attacking talents in England, having scored 31 goals and provided 29 assists in 125 appearances for Aston Villa. In the 2025-2026 season specifically, he netted 14 goals and assisted 12 others in 55 matches, helping the team qualify for the Champions League and win the Europa League title.
On the international stage, Rogers participated in all six matches for the England national team during the 2026 World Cup, providing the only goal for the "Three Lions" in their semi-final loss to Argentina, with a cross that was converted by Anthony Gordon, before gearing up for the third-place playoff against France.
Aston Villa is aware that Rodgers' departure this summer is a possibility, but they have stipulated a fee of over £100 million for his sale. The club plans to reinvest part of the transfer fee to strengthen their squad, targeting a new winger. Among the names being considered are Ibrahim Mbay and Cresencio Summerville, following the recent signings of Johan Mvogo and João Gomes this summer.
