Scaloni on the Brink of Historic Achievement with Argentina
Coach Lionel Scaloni is set to achieve a historic milestone with the Argentina national team, as he approaches becoming the coach with the most World Cup matches in history for La Albiceleste.
Scaloni has reached 13 World Cup matches after leading Argentina to a 3-1 victory over Switzerland in extra time during the quarter-finals of the 2026 edition, surpassing the legendary coach César Luis Menotti, who managed the team in 12 World Cup matches.
Currently, only Carlos Salvador Bilardo stands ahead of Scaloni, with 14 matches at the helm of the national team in World Cup history.
With Argentina's qualification for the semi-finals, La Albiceleste is guaranteed at least two more matches, whether in the semi-finals and then the final, or in the third-place playoff, meaning Scaloni will reach at least 15 matches, surpassing Bilardo to become the coach with the most matches in Argentina's World Cup history.
Scaloni will have the chance to equal the record when he leads Argentina against England in the highly anticipated World Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
