Michael Owen Warns England: This Performance Won't Beat Argentina
English football star Michael Owen has sharply criticized England's performance, stating that the level displayed in their victory over Norway will not be sufficient to overcome Argentina in the 2026 World Cup semi-final.
Owen said: "If England plays at this level against Argentina, it won't be enough. We need to improve significantly. You can't rely on luck in every match; at some point, you'll pay the price."
He added: "This team has the quality and players capable of winning the World Cup, but the performance so far has not been convincing, and if it continues like this, reaching the final will be very difficult."
Owen's comments come after England advanced to the semi-finals following a 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway, setting up a highly anticipated clash with Argentina, amid widespread criticism of the English team's performance despite the win.
Owen concluded by emphasizing that semi-final matches are decided by small details, stressing that England must deliver a much better performance if they wish to eliminate the defending champions and reach the final.
