France Defeats Morocco 2-0 to Reach World Cup Semifinals
The French team started the match strongly and nearly opened the scoring early with a shot from Kylian Mbappé in the 4th minute, but Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made a great save. Then, Upamecano almost snatched the lead with a header, but Bounou continued to shine.
In the 28th minute, France was awarded a penalty taken by Mbappé, but Bounou excelled once again, brilliantly saving the shot to keep his net clean. The Moroccan goalkeeper also denied other clear chances from Désiré Doué in the 35th minute and Lucas Digne in stoppage time of the first half.
The second half was intense from both teams, especially from Morocco, but Kylian Mbappé broke through the Moroccan defense, scoring the opening goal in the 60th minute with a stunning shot from inside the box.
The second goal came shortly after, as Ousmane Dembélé added the second in the 66th minute following a pass from Mbappé, before driving into the area and firing a low shot that found the back of the net, with Bounou unable to stop it.
In the 83rd minute, Onahi struck a powerful shot from outside the box, but the goalkeeper managed to save it with difficulty. Morocco nearly reduced the deficit through Ayinawi with a header from a corner kick, but his effort hit the outside of the net. Parkoula also had a strong shot that Bounou deflected for a corner, and he made another brilliant save from Mateta in the 90+3 minute, sealing the match with a win for France.
France will face the winner of the match between Spain and Belgium in the semifinals.
