Ajax Officially Announces Daley Blind's Return
Ajax Amsterdam has officially announced the signing of defender Daley Blind on a free transfer after his contract with Girona expired. He has signed a deal that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2027.
Blind is a product of the Ajax academy, having joined at the age of eight, and made his first-team debut in December 2008. He also had a loan spell at Groningen during the 2009-2010 season before returning to become a key player for the team.
During his first stint at Ajax, he won four consecutive Eredivisie titles in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, along with the Johan Cruyff Cup in 2013.
In the summer of 2014, he moved to Manchester United before returning to Ajax in 2018, where he won the domestic double in his first season, added the Johan Cruyff Cup in 2019, and contributed to two more Eredivisie titles, bringing his total to seven with the club.
Blind left Ajax in December 2022 to join Bayern Munich on a short-term deal, winning the Bundesliga, before moving to Girona in the summer of 2023. His journey with the Spanish club ended this summer, leading to his return to his hometown club.
Daley Blind has played 333 matches for Ajax so far, scoring 13 goals, and is now set to begin a new chapter in his career with the club.
Jordi Cruyff, the club's sporting director, stated: "It’s great to welcome Daley back to the club where his career started. He brings experience, calmness, and quality, which are attributes that can help this group immediately. For us, it was a logical step, as a player with his background and character fits perfectly with the project we are building."
