Real Madrid has issued an official statement expressing its strong condemnation of the racist and xenophobic remarks made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla against its French star Kylian Mbappe, following the match between France and Paraguay in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

The match, which ended with France winning 1-0, was marked by tense moments and altercations between players from both teams, with Mbappe facing several aggressive challenges during the game, before Senator Amarilla directed a racist insult at him after Paraguay's exit from the tournament.

The royal club stated in its announcement: "Real Madrid wishes to express its firm rejection of the unfortunate racist and xenophobic remarks made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla against our player Kylian Mbappe."

It added: "Our club strongly condemns such statements, which are unbecoming of a political representative, and reaffirms its full support for our player Kylian Mbappe, who serves as a role model for millions, especially children around the world."

It concluded: "Such hate-inciting behavior has no place in society. Football and sports represent a space for equality and solidarity, and Real Madrid will continue to work towards the complete eradication of racism, xenophobia, and violence in all its forms."
