The Moroccan national team suffered a major blow during their victory over Canada in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, as star player Ismail Sabiri sustained a hamstring injury that forced him to leave the pitch early, visibly distressed, before being replaced by Soufiane Rahimi.

Sabiri's emotional exit raised concerns among Moroccan fans about his ability to continue in the tournament, given his significant role in the "Atlas Lions" squad. The Moroccan Football Federation has yet to release any statement regarding the nature of the injury or the expected recovery time, pending medical examination results.

According to injury specialist Thamer Al-Shahrani, recovery time varies depending on the nature of the injury. The player could be sidelined for five days if it is merely a muscle strain, while absence could extend to 10 to 14 days in the case of a grade one tear.

Al-Shahrani added that the worst-case scenario involves a grade two tear or worse, which could require a treatment period of up to six weeks, potentially jeopardizing Sabiri's continued participation with the Moroccan national team in the remainder of the 2026 World Cup.
