Mandi: Defensive Errors and Lack of Efficiency Led to World Cup Exit
Algerian defender Aïssa Mandi expressed his disappointment following the "Desert Warriors" exit from the 2026 World Cup after a defeat to Switzerland. He emphasized that the players bear responsibility for the elimination, noting that defensive errors and a lack of efficiency were the decisive factors in the team's journey ending.
In statements made to Algerian television after the match, Mandi explained that the team tried to come back from the first half, but the second goal they conceded at the start of the second half made the task significantly harder.
He said: "We tried our best and worked hard in the first half to get back into the game, but we conceded a surprising second goal at the start of the second half. We put in extra effort on the pitch, but unfortunately, we couldn't score a goal to bring us back into the match."
The veteran defender did not hesitate to acknowledge the mistakes made by the team, affirming that the players take full responsibility for what happened. He added: "We made defensive errors in today's match, and as players, we take full responsibility for them, but unfortunately, this is the world of football, and we must accept its judgments."
Mandi concluded his statements by confirming that the team's lack of efficiency in both defensive and offensive aspects was the main reason for their exit from the tournament, saying: "The lack of efficiency in both the attacking and defensive phases was the direct cause of our elimination from the World Cup today."
