Ronald Koeman Announces Resignation from Coaching the Netherlands
Ronald Koeman announced his resignation as the coach of the Dutch national team after being eliminated from the World Cup by Morocco, in an emotional message where he reflected on his long career in the world of football, affirming that he feels proud and grateful for all the stages he has been through, both at the club level and with the national team.
Koeman pointed out that his experiences with clubs like Vitesse, Ajax, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven, Valencia, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord, Southampton, Everton, and Barcelona, along with his two tenures with the Dutch national team, all contributed to shaping his personality and provided him with memories he will cherish for a lifetime.
The Dutch coach admitted that the dream of winning the World Cup and making history with his national team did not come true, emphasizing that no one feels the disappointment of elimination more than he does. Koeman said, "We all dreamed of a World Cup where we would make history, but that didn't happen. As a national coach, I take full responsibility, and I have always felt it and will continue to feel it."
Koeman explained that family and health circumstances played a crucial role in his decision, noting that his personal experience made him reconsider his priorities. He said, "Football was my life, but health is priceless. When someone you love with all your heart is fighting a fierce battle, your perspective on things changes." He also dedicated touching words to his wife, Bartina, affirming that she supported and encouraged his work daily despite her illness, describing her as an example of strength and willpower.
Koeman concluded his message by expressing that he had hoped to end his career with the Dutch national team by winning a world title, but this dream did not come true. He added: "Above all, I feel proud; proud of everything football has given me, of the people I've met, and that I was able to turn my greatest passion into a career that I lived with love and dedication."
