The Portuguese club Benfica officially announced the signing of French defender Clément Lenglet from Atlético Madrid on a three-year contract extending until the summer of 2029, strengthening the team's lineup in preparation for the new season.

Lenglet's transfer came after all parties reached a full agreement, ending the French defender's stint with Atletico Madrid after just one season and starting a new experience in the Portuguese league under coach Marco Silva.

Benfica is relying on the experience of the 31-year-old player, who has previously represented clubs such as Nancy, Sevilla, Barcelona, Tottenham, and Aston Villa, before moving to Atletico Madrid, where he played numerous matches at the highest domestic and European levels.

The deal for Lenglet is part of Benfica's plan to strengthen their defense line before the season starts, while Atlético Madrid benefits from the player's departure by reducing the wage bill and making room for new reinforcements in the back line.
