Ochoa Achieves a Remarkable Record in the World Cup

The Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa etched his name in gold letters in the records of the World Cup tournament, after becoming the first goalkeeper in the history of the tournament to participate in 6 different editions.

Ochoa's journey with the World Cup began in the 2006 Germany edition when he was a rising young player, and continued edition after edition until he reached the 2026 World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Entering history came in the last match against the Czech Republic in the third round of the group stage, where the 40-year-old entered as a substitute in the second half, specifically at the 78th minute.

With this participation, Ochoa joined a rare list that only includes legends of the game, becoming the third player in World Cup history to play in 6 different editions, after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but he stands out as the first goalkeeper to reach this number.

Ochoa's historic record coincided with a collective achievement for the Mexican national team, securing passage to the round of 32 after defeating the Czech Republic with a clean 3-0 score, achieving a perfect score with 9 points.
