Barcelona Anticipates Financial Gains from the Transfer of Sergi Altimira to Sporting Lisbon
Barcelona is anticipating additional financial returns during the summer transfer window, as the Spanish midfielder Sergi Altimira is close to leaving Real Betis to join Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" indicated that the deal is nearing completion for about 20 million euros, which will grant Barcelona the right to receive a percentage of the transfer value under the solidarity mechanism approved by FIFA.
This is because Altemira spent seven seasons in Barcelona's youth categories between 2012 and 2019, a period that falls within the developmental years for which FIFA grants compensation to clubs that contributed to the players' development.
FIFA's solidarity mechanism stipulates that 5% of the value of any international transfer deal is distributed among the clubs that contributed to the player's development between the ages of 12 and 23. This distribution is based on specific percentages related to the number of years the player spent at each club during that period.
Since Altimira wore the Barcelona jersey between the ages of 12 and 17, the Catalan club will receive the equivalent of 2% of the anticipated deal's value, approximately 400,000 euros, if his transfer to Sporting Lisbon is completed at the current market value.
In the same context, Barcelona is also expecting another return from the training rights of Marc Cucurella, after the player transferred to Real Madrid for 55 million euros plus other variables. The Catalan club will receive 1.35 million euros as a result of this deal.
