Harry Kane: Disappointment After Draw with Ghana
The star of the English national team, Harry Kane, appeared in a press statement following the 0-0 draw against the Ghanaian national team in the second round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
The player said: "Obviously, we are disappointed not to win the match. We knew we would have a lot of possession, and that's what happened, but they defended well with a cohesive and low defensive block, which made playing in depth difficult. So the match focused on the flanks and individual battles. I think towards the end of both the first and second halves, we gained some momentum and created chances."
He added: "It was a match we could have won 1-0 or 2-0 and moved forward. It wouldn't have been the most beautiful game because of their style of play. They deserve credit because they defended well and were dangerous on counter-attacks. Overall, we handled it well, and they didn't get many chances. We get one point and continue on our path."
He continued: "Perhaps we just lacked some quality, but these matches are tough. I've played in many such encounters, as have many players. Sometimes you need an early goal to open up the game and force the opponent to advance, but the longer the score remains goalless, the more their confidence grows and they defend with greater spirit. Nevertheless, we created chances in the final minutes."
Regarding missing a chance in the final moments: "I trust my ability to score most of the time. It's one of those days when you just can't find the net, but I've lived the life of a striker for a long time and I know that opportunities don't always turn into goals. I trust myself nine times out of ten, but things didn't go my way today."
He concluded: "We wanted to achieve a second victory today, but that didn't happen. Nevertheless, we are in a good position and looking forward to the next match."
