Roma's Plan to Sign Greenwood

Roma's Plan to Sign Greenwood

Tuesday 23-06-2026
AS Roma is accelerating its negotiations to sign the English striker Mason Greenwood before the end of June, by setting up an organized payment plan aimed at meeting Marseille's financial commitments to UEFA, while maintaining the Italian club's ability to complete the deal.

According to 'Corriere dello Sport', citing 'Calcio Mercato', Roma plans to pay an amount ranging from 15 to 20 million euros directly to Marseille before June 30, with an additional 35 million euros to be paid, including a fixed amount and bonuses, in several subsequent installments.

This financial formula aims to enable Marseille to record the full value of the deal in its 2026 budget, in line with UEFA's requirements related to capital gains and to avoid sanctions.

The timing is increasingly important due to a clause in the player's contract starting in July, which raises Greenwood's value to 60 million euros, making the current period the most suitable to complete the deal at a lower price.

In contrast, Marseille insists on receiving 50 million euros guaranteed plus 5 million in bonuses, noting that 40% of the deal's value will go to Manchester United, reducing the net financial return for the French club.

Greenwood had already agreed on personal terms with Roma with a contract of 4.5 million euros net annually plus bonuses, with a gradual increase in the coming years.

Coach Gasperini also plays an important role in convincing the player, as direct communication between them continues, while Greenwood has confirmed his commitment to waiting for Roma instead of considering other offers.
