Tuesday 16-06-2026
The Saudi national team achieved a valuable draw against its counterpart, the Uruguay national team, with a score of 1-1, in its first match in the 2026 World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Green Falcons opened the scoring in the 40th minute through defender Abdulelah Al-Amri, who capitalized on a rebound from the Uruguayan goalkeeper and placed it in the net, giving his team the lead before the end of the first half.

The Saudi team appeared impressive during the first half of the match under the leadership of coach Georgios Donis, successfully imposing their style on the flow of the game, and missed several dangerous opportunities to enhance their lead, most notably through Salem Al-Dawsari and Abdulelah Al-Amri, amidst the brilliance of the Uruguayan goalkeeper.

With the start of the second half, the Saudi team slightly retreated to maintain their lead, while Uruguay intensified their offensive pressure in search of an equalizing goal.

Goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais and the Saudi defense excelled in countering many dangerous attempts, before Maximiliano Araujo managed to score the equalizer for Uruguay in the 80th minute.

With this result, the Saudi national team earned its first point in the tournament, equaling with the teams of Group H, each with one point, after the match between Spain and Cape Verde also ended in a draw.

The Green Falcons are preparing for a strong match against the Spanish national team in the second round, next Sunday evening, hoping to continue their positive results and enhance their chances of advancing to the next round.
