Cucurella's Transfer to Real Madrid Brings Financial Gains to Barcelona
Barcelona will financially benefit from the transfer of Spanish full-back Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid from Chelsea, in a deal valued at around 55 million euros plus variables, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo."
Cucurella spent six years in Barcelona's youth categories between the ages of 14 and 20, granting the Catalan club the right to receive a portion of the transfer fee under the solidarity mechanism approved by FIFA. This mechanism stipulates that 5% of any transfer fee is distributed proportionally among the clubs that contributed to the player's development between the ages of 12 and 23.
Based on the percentages specified in the solidarity system, Barcelona is expected to receive around 1.35 million euros from Cucurella's transfer to Real Madrid. This amount represents 2.5% of the basic value of the deal, estimated at 55 million euros, and this return could increase if the variable clauses agreed upon in the contract are activated.
Barcelona will not be the only beneficiary of the deal, as Espanyol will receive 275,000 euros, Getafe will receive 550,000 euros, and Brighton will receive 275,000 euros, as part of the distribution of training compensation and the solidarity mechanism approved by FIFA.
With the addition of the expected amount from Cucurella's transfer to Real Madrid, Barcelona's total revenue from the player will rise to 11.15 million euros. The club had previously sold its former player to Eibar for 2 million euros, then bought him back for 4 million euros before selling him to Getafe for 11.8 million euros, resulting in a net return of 9.8 million euros from these transactions. Now, the funds due from the solidarity mechanism related to the latest transfer are added to this amount.
