Eight and a Half Year Prison Sentence for Former Barcelona Player
A court in Valencia sentenced Spanish attacker Rafa Mir to eight and a half years in prison after he was convicted of committing sexual assault and causing physical injuries to a victim, in a case dating back to 2024.
The sentence included seven years in prison for sexual assault, in addition to another 18 months for physical harm, requiring the player to pay 64,000 euros in compensation to the victim, and prohibiting him from approaching her for 13 years, along with subjecting him to a probation period after the sentence ends.
Rafa Mir had denied the accusations throughout the stages of the case, asserting that the relationship was consensual. However, the court found the victim's testimony to be coherent and supported by evidence and forensic reports, leading to a conviction.
It is noted that the ruling is not final yet, as Rafa Mir, the current Elche forward, has the right to appeal it before higher judicial authorities.
The 28-year-old forward is a former youth player for Barcelona and has played for Valencia, Sevilla, Wolverhampton, and other clubs.
