The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) officially announced the appointment of Polish referee Szymon Marciniak to officiate the anticipated clash between the national teams of Argentina and Algeria, as part of the first round of group stage matches in the 2026 World Cup.

Marciniak is considered one of the top referees globally, having previously officiated the World Cup final in the last edition, which was between Argentina and France, in one of the most thrilling matches in the tournament's history.

The match is scheduled to take place on June 16 at 4:00 AM Mecca time, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, as part of Group J of the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA also revealed the rest of the officiating team, with Tomasz Listkiewicz as the first assistant referee, Adam Kupsik as the second assistant referee, and Campbell Kirk Kawana-Waugh as the fourth official, while Isaac Trevis will be the reserve assistant referee.

This match is expected to attract significant fan attention given the stature of both teams, with Argentina entering the match as one of the top contenders for the title, while the Algerian team aims for a strong start in what appears to be a highly competitive group.
