Tuesday 02-06-2026
The World Cup is approaching, with only 9 days left until the kickoff of the world's largest football event, where top national teams gather to compete for global glory.

The largest victories in World Cup history, with a margin of nine goals, have been recorded on more than one occasion, making these results some of the most notable historical milestones in the global tournament.

The beginning was with the Hungarian national team in the 1954 edition, when they delivered a crushing offensive performance against the South Korean team in Zurich, ending the match with a historic 9-0 victory. Péter Palotás and Ferenc Puskás each scored two goals, while Sándor Kocsis achieved a hat-trick.

Two decades later, the Yugoslav national team repeated the same result in the 1974 World Cup, when they overwhelmed the Zaire national team with a 9-0 victory in the city of Gelsenkirchen, with remarkable performances from several of their stars, notably Dragan Džajić and Dušan Bajević.

Hungary once again demonstrated their strong offensive presence in the 1982 edition, achieving a significant victory over El Salvador with a score of 10-1 in the city of Elche. In this match, László Kiss made history by scoring a hat-trick after coming on as a substitute, becoming one of the standout names in that edition of the tournament.
