Arsenal Recalls Budapest Memories Ahead of Champions League Final

Thursday 28-05-2026
Arsenal is gearing up for a highly anticipated clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2026 UEFA Champions League final at the Puskás Arena in Budapest, as memories of the English club's past visits to the Hungarian capital come to the forefront.

The official website of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) noted that Arsenal's first appearance in Budapest dates back to 1907, when they drew 2-2 against Budapesti Torna Club, before achieving a significant victory over MTK with a score of 9-0.

Both matches were held at the Millenáris Sporttelep, which is considered the first stronghold of Hungarian football, located near the current Puskás Arena.

The report explained that Arsenal's second visit to Budapest came in May 1912, when the team secured a 2-1 victory over Ferencváros, the Hungarian champions at the time, at the Üllői út stadium. The Hungarian team initially took the lead with a goal by Karoly Korodoy, before Arsenal turned the score around with goals from Matt Thompson and Tommy Winship, under the guidance of coach George Morrell.

Arsenal hopes to revive memories of its positive results in Budapest when they face Paris in the European tournament final, aiming to secure the club's first-ever Champions League title.
