Thursday 28-05-2026
Football fans around the world turn their eyes to the Hungarian capital, Budapest, where the 'Puskás Aréna' will host the UEFA Champions League final for the 2025/2026 season. This anticipated match will feature a historic clash between France's Paris Saint-Germain and England's Arsenal, marking a significant event in Europe's premier club competition.

Paris Saint-Germain enters the final as the defending champion, aiming for a historic achievement by retaining the title, which would make it the second club in the modern era to do so after Real Madrid, who achieved this feat between 2016 and 2018.

On the other hand, Arsenal enters the match with great ambitions, seeking to claim its first European title, aiming to become the twenty-fifth club to win the Champions League, and the second consecutive club to achieve its first victory following Paris Saint-Germain's 2025 win, after being the runner-up in the 2006 edition.

Budapest hosts its first European final

Hungary, specifically the 'Puskás Aréna' in Budapest, hosts the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in the competition's history, having previously hosted the Europa League final in 2023.

The stadium is one of the most prominent modern sports facilities in Europe, officially opened on November 15, 2019, as Hungary's new national stadium, built on the site of the former Ferenc Puskás Stadium, which was demolished in 2017.

The stadium is named after the Hungarian football legend Ferenc Puskás, one of the greatest players in history, who won the European Cup three times with Real Madrid.

The stadium has also hosted major matches such as Euro 2020 games and the 2020 UEFA Super Cup, in addition to the 2023 Europa League final.

Final date and match details

The final is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, marking the conclusion of the 71st edition of the UEFA Champions League, and the 34th edition since its rebranding to the modern format.

The match kicks off at 7 PM Mecca time, relatively earlier compared to previous years, to enhance the final day's experience in terms of organization, fan movement, and ease of transportation.

If the regular time ends in a draw, the teams will resort to two extra times, each lasting 15 minutes. If the draw persists after extra time, penalty kicks will determine the champion.

The audience will be treated to a special performance of the UEFA Champions League anthem, with renowned Hungarian pianist Ádám György presenting the anthem and several musical pieces during the final, the same role he played in the 2023 Istanbul final.

What does the champion receive?

The UEFA Champions League winner receives the famous trophy, which stands 73.5 cm tall and weighs 7.5 kg, making it one of the most prestigious and heaviest awards in football.

The winning team also secures qualification for the 2026 UEFA Super Cup to face the Europa League winner for the 2025/2026 season, along with a guaranteed spot in the group stage or league phase of the 2026/2027 Champions League, if not qualified domestically.

The substantial financial returns of the UEFA Champions League continue as teams reach the decisive stages, with the champion receiving a prize of 25 million euros, while the runner-up earns 18.5 million euros, in addition to cumulative bonuses awarded to clubs throughout their journey in the competition, including participation and performance bonuses.

Financial bonuses in the knockout stages are structured as follows: teams reaching the Round of 16 receive 11 million euros, while those advancing to the quarter-finals earn 12.5 million euros, and the reward increases to 15 million euros for teams reaching the semi-finals.
