Politano: We Suffered a Lot This Season... and I Find It Difficult to Talk About the National Team
Matteo Politano spoke about the season nearing its end with Napoli, emphasizing that the team went through tough times due to injuries and the pressure of matches. However, he stressed that the players "gave their all" throughout the season. He also explained that the team sometimes struggled even to complete the starting lineup, yet the group maintained its spirit until the end.
He stated: "It was a long season, with many matches and injuries. What we built over the past two years was evident in the atmosphere we experienced throughout the season. We went through tough moments, and at times we struggled even to find 11 players ready to participate, but we always tried to give our best."
He added: "We gave it our all, but we didn't achieve the goals we set at the beginning of the season. This is part of football and any journey, and it must be accepted."
Regarding the most emotional league title for him, he said: "Perhaps the fourth title was more thrilling because the tension lasted until the end, while the third title was a victorious path decided early on. Choosing between them is like choosing between a father and a mother."
He also spoke about his disappointment with the Italian national team: "I find it difficult to talk about the team; it was a painful blow. For us players over thirty, it was the last chance. I feel very sad for everyone and for the coach as well."
He concluded his statements by saying: "If Italian football wants to rise again, work must start from the grassroots and the youth sector, because we see very few Italian players in the academies of major clubs."
