The media personality Khaled Al-Ghandour confirmed that Mohamed Shehata was injured while taking the penalty kick for Zamalek, which he missed in the CAF Confederation Cup final against Algeria's USM Alger.

Al-Ghandour said on his program "Stad Al-Mehwar" that Mohamed Shehata took the penalty kick while suffering from a hamstring strain, with the knowledge of his teammates. He pointed out that the coaching staff, led by Moatamed Gamal, was forced to choose him due to Mohamed Ibrahim's inability to take the kick.

He pointed out that Mohamed Shehata fell into a severe state of collapse after missing the penalty kick in the locker room, and his teammates intervened to calm him down despite the difficulty of the situation for everyone.

Zamalek lost the African Confederation Cup title to Algeria's USM Alger in a penalty shootout with a score of 8-7, following a 1-1 draw in both legs of the final.
