Thursday 14-05-2026
The coaching staff of Al-Shorta Club held a press conference ahead of the Diyala match tomorrow, Friday, at Diyala Stadium, as part of the 35th round of the Iraqi Stars League. During the conference, coach Ahmed Salah and player Mahmoud Al-Mawas revealed the team's preparations and goals for the match.

The match comes at a critical time for the team, which is looking to continue its push towards the top of the league and remain just one step away from the leading team, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya.

Coach Ahmed Salah emphasized that facing Diyala will not be easy despite the theoretical difference in the standings, noting that the southern team has a coaching staff and players capable of making a difference if not given enough respect.

Salah stated that the team's technical and moral readiness is complete, and the recent three consecutive victories have given the players a big boost to enter the match with high confidence, but he warned against underestimating the opponent.

He explained that the close levels of the league teams this season require everyone to handle each match with double focus throughout the 90 minutes, confirming that Al-Shorta will miss some important elements, but the substitutes are ready to compensate for the absence and provide the needed contribution.

For his part, player Mahmoud Al-Mawas confirmed that the team's preparations have gone well over the past days, and there is a great focus within the group before tomorrow's match.

Al-Mawas said the main goal is to present a level befitting the name of Al-Shorta Club and to please the fans who support the team everywhere, emphasizing the importance of precisely executing the coaching staff's instructions on the field.

He added that the team enters the match with a clear ambition to achieve victory and come out with a positive result that strengthens its position in the standings and keeps it close to the top of the league.

Al-Shorta enters the match in second place with 73 points and has no option but to win to keep its hopes alive in the title race. On the other hand, Diyala plays without pressure after securing its stay, but it aims to take advantage of the home ground and fans to challenge one of the league's top teams.
