FIFA Shocks Bristiani Before the World Cup

The Argentine Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni received a harsh penalty from UEFA following the incident involving him and Vinicius Junior during the Benfica vs. Real Madrid match in the Champions League, before FIFA decided to extend the penalty to all competitions.

According to the decision, Prestiani was suspended for 6 matches, with 3 of them suspended in case of a repeat offense. He has already served one match retroactively, which was the return leg at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The investigations were unable to prove the use of racist insults, but they did confirm the presence of homophobic remarks, which warranted imposing a penalty on him.

With this decision, the player will not be able to participate in at least the first two matches of the World Cup, and the penalty may be extended if the violation is repeated before or during the tournament.

A spokesperson for the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) clarified: "The disciplinary committee has decided to extend the scope of the sanction to be effective worldwide, in accordance with Article 70 of the disciplinary regulations."

The decision now rests with Argentina's national team coach, Lionel Scaloni, who will determine whether to call up the player despite his expected absence from most of the group stage matches, especially since his role in the team has not been essential recently.
