Chelsea Moves to Retain Club World Cup Champions Badge on Their Jersey
Saturday 02-05-2026
Chelsea Football Club has submitted an official request to the English Premier League to allow them to place the FIFA Club World Cup champions badge on their team jerseys for the 2026-2027 season, as the club continues to hold the title of the tournament champions.

It had been previously decided that the possibility of continuing to wear the armband for more than one season was unclear, but the London club is currently seeking to officially reinstate it on the jersey for the next season.

Chelsea was crowned the Club World Cup champion after winning the final match held at "MetLife" Stadium last July, where the team received the trophy from former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The team began its current season wearing the badge on their jerseys, under the leadership of coach Enzo Maresca, who led the team to victory against Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey.

At the beginning of the year, the team experienced technical changes, as Maresca was dismissed on January 1st, and Liam Rosenior was appointed as his replacement. However, he was dismissed just 17 days after taking on the role.

Chelsea is preparing to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, in a match considered important in the team's race for the spots qualifying for European competitions next season.

According to the regulations of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), clubs that win major championships are allowed to place special badges on their jerseys in all domestic and continental competitions to confirm their title, without a similar system existing in tournaments like the UEFA Champions League and other UEFA competitions.

The placement of the badge may cause some design challenges on the shirts, as it is added after the basic design has been approved. This often confines its position between the club's logo and the manufacturer's logo, and in Chelsea's case, between the club's logo and "Nike."

It is noted that the Club World Cup system has expanded to become a tournament of 32 teams held during the summer, while the fate of future editions is still under discussion, both in terms of timing and host country, with proposals to hold it every two years instead of every four years.
