Allegri: This is What We Need to Qualify for the Champions League, and Leão Suffers from Inconsistency
Italian coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed that AC Milan can settle for a draw against Juventus, in the 34th round of the Italian league competition, at the San Siro stadium.
Allegri said in statements to DAZN: "It was a very balanced and tactical match, with a lot at stake. We had some chances as did Juventus."
He added: "Juventus has great depth in the lineup and players capable of changing matches from the flanks, but my players defended well, except for a cross that David failed to handle."
He continued: "We can be satisfied with the draw, as it gives us an additional step forward, and we are now only six points away from achieving our goal, equivalent to winning two matches."
The coach confirmed that the draw was a fair result, saying: "These are balanced matches, any moment can change the result, and the draw was logical."
Regarding his agitation on the touchline due to some Juventus counterattacks, he joked: "We conceded three goals against Udinese and barely noticed, and today we lost the ball two or three times dangerously, but the defense was good in retreating and closing spaces, I wished for more accuracy in passing and better timing in executing attacks."
Regarding the attacking duo Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic, Allegri said the tactical system (3-5-2) does not fully support them, explaining that he substituted Pulisic and brought in a striker, Niclas Füllkrug, to change the style of play.
He said about Leão: "He played a good match, perhaps one of his best this season. He contributed this season with goals and assists, but he is not a consistent player, and hasn't been for years, he showed good defensive effort and had some runs, and this is one of his best matches."
About Pulisic, he explained: "He is a very sensitive person, and this difficult period affects him more, and he is also influenced by the absence of a direct striker and physical challenges."
He concluded his statements by saying: "The results ultimately are points, and we now need six points instead of seven to ensure qualification for the Champions League. We must prepare well for the Sassuolo match and deliver a better technical performance."
