Ahmed Diab: No Club Mergers, Moving Towards Partnerships for Sustainability
Monday 27-04-2026
Ahmed Diab, the President of the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association, revealed the features of the upcoming phase in the management of Egyptian football, emphasizing that the rumors about club mergers are not true.

Diab clarified in his statements that the current approach is based on partnership rather than merger, as the activation of the sports law is being studied to establish football companies without affecting the identity of the clubs.

He pointed out that each club will retain its management, assets, and activities in full, while partnerships can be established in the football sector only, ensuring the development of the system without affecting the identity of the clubs.

He added that these partnerships could lead to the launch of a new name for the team in the event of a contract between a popular club and another club in the football sector, while continuing to play on the same fields and the club retaining its identity.

Diab emphasized that the goal of this step is to ensure that popular clubs continue to compete in the league and achieve financial sustainability for the football sector, in line with global developments in the management of the game.

He concluded his remarks by indicating that the implementation of the partnership system is imminent, given the desire of all parties to keep pace with the significant developments in the global football industry.
