Van Dijk: I Will Talk a Lot About Salah, and We Have a Task to Accomplish
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk appeared in a press statement following the 2-1 victory over Everton in the 33rd round of the English Premier League, in a match held at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The player commented on the comparisons between his first goal for Liverpool, which was against Everton, and today's winning goal, saying: "There is no comparison; my first goal in the first match was the best for me personally."
He added, "Today's match was crucial given our current situation, as we are striving to qualify for the Champions League. This is certainly not what befits Liverpool, in my opinion, but it's the reality, and it was important for us to secure the win. I'm happy we achieved that."
He continued: "Certainly. We still have five matches ahead against teams also competing for qualification to the Champions League. Every match is important. As I said, we are very disappointed as a team with the season we are having, given the team's level. It is below the required standard."
He emphasized, "We must continue to fight and do our utmost to achieve the best possible results in this disappointing season. That's the reality, so let's move on to the next match. Today, we secured three valuable points, and the next match will be against Crystal Palace at home, a team we haven't been able to beat in many previous games."
Regarding Mohamed Salah: "I will talk about him a lot over the next two weeks. He is a very important player for us, both on and off the field. We might not fully appreciate players until after they leave, but we value him greatly. He is a great teammate, and we have been through everything together, in good times and bad. His presence will remain important in our remaining five matches."
He concluded: "Salah's departure will certainly be impactful for him and his family, and for us as well, because he means a lot to me, the team, and the fans, of course. But first, we still have a task to accomplish (securing qualification for the Champions League), and he knows that, which is our primary focus."
