Motsepe Acknowledges Bias of Some Referees: Working with FIFA to Develop Refereeing in Africa

The South African Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, affirmed that football in the African continent has suffered from some instances of refereeing bias, emphasizing the need to develop the system to ensure fairness on the field.

During a press conference today, Sunday, Motsepe said: "It is undeniable that African football has suffered from the bias of some referees," while also confirming the existence of a partnership with the International Federation of Football Associations aimed at training referees and enhancing their competence, with efforts to implement full professionalism in this field.

The CAF President clarified that the African Super League will return by the end of this year, with efforts to secure strong sponsors to ensure its success. He noted that the final decision on some issues related to past editions of the Africa Cup of Nations is now in the hands of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Motsepe revealed his plans to visit Senegal and Morocco as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation with national federations, affirming CAF's respect for all countries' rights to pursue various legal avenues.

He added that Morocco will host the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, in addition to retaining the organization of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations on its scheduled dates, praising the kingdom's ability to host numerous tournaments.

He concluded his statements by revealing future plans, most notably the launch of the African Nations League with a geographical division system, in addition to studying the possibility of increasing the number of teams participating in the Africa Cup of Nations to 28 teams in the coming years.
