Barcelona Rules Out Signing Simons and Focuses on Developing Local Talent
Sunday 29-03-2026
The Spanish newspaper "Sport" confirmed that FC Barcelona is not planning to sign Dutch player Xavi Simons from English club Tottenham during the upcoming summer transfer window, noting that the deal does not align with the club's current priorities.

Xavi Simons joined Tottenham at the start of the current season from the German club Leipzig for a substantial fee of 60 million euros, which makes it difficult for the Catalan club to complete the deal.

The report clarified that Barcelona believes returning to the club after paying the transfer fee might send the wrong message to the youth academy, especially since Simons had previously left the team in the 2019 season for Paris Saint-Germain. Club officials emphasized that the current club policy focuses on developing local talents, which is why Xavi Simons is not part of the team's summer plans.

It is noted that Simons is a product of Barcelona's academy and has also played for Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven, and RB Leipzig before transferring to Tottenham this season.
