Renard Responds to Criticism: I Will Leave with My Head Held High
Thursday 26-03-2026
The Frenchman Hervé Renard, the head coach of the Saudi national team, responded to recent criticisms regarding his failure to gain the trust of the fans since his return to lead the "Falcons," affirming that he is working with all his energy to serve the team.

The Green team is preparing to face the Egyptian national team in a friendly match in Jeddah on Friday, March 27, as part of the preparation program for the 2026 World Cup.

During the introductory press conference, Renard said: "At the end of my contract, when I leave, I will hold my head high if I succeed in qualifying this team for the World Cup twice."

He added, "The conditions of the players' participation, especially in the forward position, make the task difficult because we are competing with a team that includes players who do not play regularly, against strong teams like Spain. However, I am doing my best, whether some people like it or not."

The French coach emphasized that the ambition remains high, stating: "No coach can be satisfied without achieving victories, and we still have a lot of work to do to improve. We will face strong teams like Uruguay and Cape Verde, and we want to go to the World Cup with great ambitions. Competing for third place is not a bad idea."

Renard addressed the issue of players turning professional, saying: "I expected more players to leave in the winter to get more playing time, but each player has his own circumstances. I spoke with many of them about the need to pay attention to participation for the sake of the national team."

He concluded by emphasizing that the criteria for selecting players are clear, saying: "Performance on the field and playing minutes are the basis for selecting the squad, whether for the first team or the B team."
