Valverde's Penalty Revealed After Red Card Against Atletico
Wednesday 25-03-2026
The Competition Committee announced a one-match suspension for Real Madrid player Federico Valverde following his dismissal during the derby match, according to the report by referee Munuera Montero. The committee made no amendments and applied the minimum penalty under the clause for excessive force.

According to the report, Valverde's tackle on Alex Baena was deemed violent, with insufficient distance to play the ball, prompting the referee to issue a direct red card.

Despite Real Madrid's protest, which asserted that the player attempted to reach the ball but arrived late, the disciplinary committee rejected these arguments, considering that the footage does not refute the validity of what was stated in the report.

The decision referred to the application of Article 130.1 of the Disciplinary Code, which stipulates a suspension of one to three matches in cases of excessive force without causing direct harm, opting for the minimum penalty.

Valverde will miss Real Madrid's upcoming match against Real Mallorca, but he will return to play in the league against Girona on April 10, benefiting from the schedule that gives him a short break.

Reports stated that the player is currently with the Uruguay national team to play two friendly matches, while his absence is a blow to the team, as he is the most participating Real Madrid player this season, in addition to his remarkable performance recently by scoring 6 goals in the last 5 matches, before this momentum was halted due to suspension.
