Guardiola: Winning Titles is Extremely Important, and We Still Do Not Match Arsenal
Sunday 22-03-2026
Manchester City's coach, Pep Guardiola, appeared in a press statement following the 2-0 victory in the English League Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday evening.

The coach said in his speech: "What can I say? Winning titles is extremely important. This victory was very special because we went through two tough weeks. In the first 15 minutes, they suffocated us, and we couldn't breathe. After that, we regained some rebounds and started playing. I am very happy that Mikel has built an almost invincible team. Winning the Carabao Cup for the fifth time in 10 years is not a bad thing. Every time you win a title, it feels harder than before. It's really tough for many reasons."

He added, "Is it harder to win more titles with the same team or to rebuild the team? When you start winning and the generation is young, you can continue this success. I need to know them. I need to know how they behave in certain moments. Today, in modern football, everyone competes fiercely and is difficult to deal with. I believe we are learning for the future, and hopefully, we will perform better next season."

He continued about Nico O'Reilly: "He might have been the best signing of the season. When we started the season, we had a long conversation with him. He started playing as a left-back and impressed everyone. He can play in multiple positions; he excels in the final attacking third in his preferred position. He scored two fantastic goals."

Regarding whether his team is closer to the level he desires: "We are still not the team that matches Arsenal or what we used to be in the past. We have always found a way to win titles."

He concluded about the Premier League title race: "Honestly, I wish we were nine points ahead. It's in their hands. We need time, a long break. I'm exhausted, and then we'll see what happens step by step."
