Szoboszlai: This Comparison is an Honor for Me, and We Can Do Anything
Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai appeared in a press statement following the 4-0 victory over Galatasaray in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, allowing the Reds to advance to the quarter-finals despite losing the first leg 1-0.
The player said in his statement: 'We needed this win, I think we showed today the right direction and what we want to show everyone and each other. It starts with us, and I know the fans may not be satisfied with us, but I think it's a good step for us, and it's my first time.'
He added: 'I really don't care how I score, all I want is to help the team succeed. It seems I have more than just a right foot! I just tried to shoot the ball into the goal, and as long as it went into the net, that's what matters. I try to do my best for the team, and I try to take on more responsibility, because that's how you develop and become a better player.'
On being compared to Steven Gerrard: 'When I was a child, I used to watch him play, and being compared to him is a great honor. I'm happy to play for this club and wear the number eight.'
He continued: 'From the first minute, we were ahead of Galatasaray, and I felt some resentment from their celebration after the first leg, but that gave us a morale boost. We were at our peak focus tonight.'
On facing Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals: 'First, we will benefit from this performance on Saturday, but I watched their match against Chelsea last night, they are a really strong team, but we proved today that we are capable of doing anything.'
He concluded: 'Every match should be at the same level, I know the Champions League is a bit different, but we need the same energy before Saturday's match.'
