Rosseigneur: We Strive to Make the Fans Happy, and We Must Correct Mistakes for Next Season
Wednesday 18-03-2026
Liam Rosseigneur, the head coach of Chelsea, spoke about several topics after the defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 with a score of 3-0, expressing his feelings towards the fans, the mistakes that occurred, and how to deal with them in the future.

Rosseigneur said: "There must be mutual respect between us and the fans, this is a great club, and everyone wants instant success, which is natural given the size of the club."

He continued: "I understand the fans' frustration with the overall result, they want to win, and I understand that. I also want to make the fans happy and give them the nights they deserve. It was hard to accept this exit because of the way we went out this evening."

Regarding his concern about the team's European future, he added: "Absolutely not, this is a great competition, and it's a competition this club deserves to be in and compete for. My job is to ensure the team is present every year and competes for titles."

He explained: "This is football, moments can change the course of things. Almost two and a quarter games ago we were in Paris, we drew 2-2 after facing Aston Villa but we don't just focus on the moments, and we must not lose focus."

He continued: "What I have to do is ensure the team gets back on track, and that starts by not making mistakes. I have already discussed this with the technical staff and we will continue to work to ensure the team is prepared to face Everton positively."

Rosseigneur commented on his decision to take out Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, and Joao Pedro after the 58th minute: "It's not an admission of defeat, but a reality of the players' condition. They have played more than 100 matches over 18 months and have not had any rest due to international matches and travel."

He added: "This is not an excuse, but a result of the club's success in the Club World Cup, it's a great achievement, but we see with players like Reece and others that if we don't manage their minutes, the likelihood of injury increases significantly."

He continued: "I have to make tough decisions, which may not look good at the moment, but the goal is the club's long-term interest."

He continued: "This is my job, we have to be flexible and go to face Everton with organization, energy, and intensity. We want to be in this competition again next season, and if we perform as we know we can, we can reach without the mistakes we made."

He explained: "In the sixth minute, we made another mistake that weakened our resolve, and the second goal was scored from 25 yards, in the top corner, leading by two early goals, and five goals in total, it was extremely difficult, it was a tough night and we wanted to offer more resistance than we did."

He added: "Paris Saint-Germain deserves credit, their possession style was excellent, and they deserved to qualify."
