Slot: We Have Something to Prove Against Tottenham, Conceding Goals from Set Pieces is Unacceptable
Friday 13-03-2026
Dutchman Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, discussed his team's anticipated match against Tottenham Hotspur, along with his comments on their recent loss to Galatasaray and the team's decline in performance in recent times.

Liverpool will host Tottenham next Sunday at Anfield, as part of the thirtieth round of the English Premier League.

Slot said during the press conference for the match: "It wasn't special just for me, but for many others as well. There is a clear difference between our current situation and Tottenham's at the moment, but this remains a wonderful memory, and I am eagerly looking forward to Sunday's match. Playing at Anfield is always something worth waiting for, and we have something to prove, especially after losing our last two matches in the league and the Champions League."

He added: "Alisson Becker is still undergoing rehabilitation training, and we will see his status for the Tottenham match."

He continued: "What I aim for is to ensure every player gets the most benefit possible until the end of the season. This is my goal and the players' goal as well. It's the only way to achieve the best possible result. Sometimes we need a bit of luck, as happened in the round of 16 last season when things were decided by penalty shootouts, and we were very close to beating Paris Saint-Germain, who eventually won the title. The margins are slim, and we have to fight to widen them day by day."

He went on: "Our level has always been high, and that's good because we are a big club and our standards must be high. Last season we achieved one of our goals by winning the league, and we almost won the Carabao Cup. Now we are still competing in two tournaments, the Champions League and the FA Cup, and we are striving hard to win."

He explained: "I believe that even if Tottenham were leading the league, everyone would still expect us to win at Anfield. The same applies to teams like Manchester City and Arsenal, as it is always expected that we win at home. We will play our 1500th match at home, and these expectations stem from the club's history. We can win many matches whether at home or away, regardless of the opponent, as the expectations in this club are always high, and it is capable of achieving titles as it has done in past years."

Slot concluded his remarks by saying: "Good individual performance starts from the team's overall performance. We were at our peak concentration during the first 15 minutes against Galatasaray, but the course of the match changed when we conceded a goal from a set piece, and this is not the first time, which is unacceptable for us. We haven't provided our best levels this season, but in the away match in Europe, we created enough chances to score, perhaps more than any other team does away in the Champions League. The problem was in capitalizing on opportunities, along with conceding several chances and goals. If we do not succeed in fixing this situation, every match will become difficult, but I trust in the quality of our players, and the next two matches will be at home."
