Santiago Bernabéu Approaches Hosting the Finalissima Final
Press reports have revealed significant developments regarding the venue for the anticipated Finalissima match between the Argentina national football team and the Spain national football team, which brings together the South American champion with the European champion.
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS," the match that was scheduled to take place on March 27 in the Qatari capital, Doha, is now close to being moved to Spain, with the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid being the leading candidate to host the event.
This potential change came after recent security events in Qatar, where drones and ballistic missiles were intercepted by the Qatari armed forces, making it impossible to hold the match there, in addition to the other matches that were part of the Qatar Football Festival.
Despite the proposal of several alternative options such as Rome and Lisbon, both the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) prefer to hold the match in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, given the global significance of the event and the stadium's capacity to host major matches, especially since it is also a candidate to host the 2030 World Cup final.
The final decision is expected to be made after reviewing the security arrangements, especially since the Spanish capital may host another match on the same day between the Moroccan national football team and the Ecuadorian national football team at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
It is noted that the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium previously hosted the 2018 Copa Libertadores final between River Plate and Boca Juniors after it was moved from Argentina due to security issues, and it successfully organized the match in an impressive manner.
