Al-Salami Praises Jordan's Performance Despite Loss to Algeria

Before the anticipated match against Argentina in the final round of the group stage, Jamal Al-Salami, the coach of the Jordanian national team, praised the performance of his players despite the 2-1 loss to Algeria in the second round of the 2026 World Cup. Al-Salami said in his statements after the match: "When you see a team as significant as Algeria celebrating a victory over us after scoring two goals from set pieces, it is something to be proud of for the Jordanian team and its players."

He added, "We played a great match against a team that has outstanding players like Riyad Mahrez and Ibrahim Maze. Our players were up to the responsibility and delivered a good performance throughout different periods of the match."

The coach of "Al-Nashama" continued his remarks by praising his team's tactical aspect, affirming that Jordan succeeded in closing down spaces and limiting the opponent's threat. He said, "On the defensive level, we were well-organized and maintained possession during many periods. We also closed most of the pathways leading to our goal, which made the Algerian team's task more difficult."

Al-Salami revealed the details of the moments leading up to the Algerian equalizing goal, explaining that he was waiting for the match to stop to make a substitution and speak to the players during the water break. However, the referee's delayed whistle prevented that, before "the Greens" managed to level the score.
