Igor Tudor Apologizes After Tottenham's Loss to Atletico Madrid
Wednesday 11-03-2026
Igor Tudor, the Tottenham coach, spoke in a press conference following the heavy 5-1 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

The coach commented on his decision to start with goalkeeper Kinski and then substitute him after he conceded two goals, saying: "After what happened, it was a mistake to start him. But it was the right decision before that; what's done is done. I've never substituted a goalkeeper after just 20 minutes."

When asked if he had spoken with Kinski, he said: "We don't need to comment. This is not the right time to talk much. It was a strange match, very strange. We conceded three goals from them, even though we started well, then problems in three opportunities finished us off, very strange, unusual. It affected our confidence. We had a chance to reduce the deficit to 4-2, then we conceded a goal to make it 5-1."

He emphasized, "We apologize to the fans and everyone. It's a tough time. Everything is going wrong. We are paying the price for small mistakes. Everything is unbelievable, even in that last moment, the collision of the players, I felt like everything was going against us."

Regarding why things are not going well: "I have to keep working. I shouldn't talk too much and should focus on what we can do. It's extremely difficult to explain all these things, as this is the first time in my career that I've seen such things in 15 years."

He stated, "I focus on the problems, and so do the players. We have to stay positive."

He concluded regarding the board of directors and whether he would support it: "It's not about me. We need to remain calm. We should talk less; it's better not to speak. This is not the time to try to offer lengthy explanations."
