Leeds United Urges Fans to Respect Fasting Players
Friday 06-03-2026
Leeds United Football Club issued an official statement on its website, urging its fans to respect Muslim players during their upcoming match against Norwich City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The club has called on its supporters not to boo the players while they break their fast, which is expected to occur around the 75th minute of the match. The game will take place the day after tomorrow, Sunday, at Elland Road Stadium at 16:30 GMT.

English stadiums typically adhere to the protocol of temporarily stopping play to give Muslim players the opportunity to drink fluids and energy supplements to break their fast, a measure aimed at supporting players during the month of Ramadan.

The statement from Leeds United follows the incident in the previous match against Manchester City, where some fans booed during a stoppage in play, which the club described as a disappointing act that goes against the spirit of mutual respect.
