Van Dijk: It's Frustrating, and the Blame is on Us
Wednesday 04-03-2026
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk appeared in a press statement following the 2-1 loss against Wolverhampton in the 29th round of the English Premier League at Molineux Stadium.

The Dutch defender said in his interview: "I think the blame is on us. We played slowly, were predictable, careless in ball possession, and made wrong decisions. We didn't give the opponent chances, but if you perform like this, such a result might be inevitable, and that's a fact. It was disappointing."

Regarding the slow start to the match, he said: "There are several reasons for that. In today's football, we tend to overanalyze the course of play. As a team, we want to start the match in the best possible way, and we did that in the last game. Today, we had possession of the ball most of the time, but we still made wrong decisions and couldn't capitalize on the opportunities available."

He concluded: "Conceding goals is always frustrating. We have kept clean sheets in two matches and were very solid defensively, but this is the reality, and we need to move on quickly because we will be back here in two days and want to perform well in the FA Cup."
