Espanyol Club announced its full solidarity with its Moroccan player Omar El Hilali, following his exposure to offensive remarks during the match against Elche in the 26th round of the Spanish League, affirming its complete rejection of what happened.

The club clarified in an official statement published on its website that Al-Hilali approached the match referee in the 78th minute to report being subjected to a discriminatory and racist remark from one of the opposing team's players.

The statement added that the referee immediately initiated the approved protocol for combating racism, stopping the match for a few minutes and informing the coaches and captains of both teams, as well as the security coordinator and field delegate, about the details of the incident, in accordance with the established procedures.

Espanyol reiterated its firm condemnation of any behavior that undermines the dignity of individuals, emphasizing its commitment to the values of respect and equality both on and off the field. It also affirmed its unconditional support for its Moroccan player, rejecting any actions linked to discrimination based on origin, skin color, or belief.

The club concluded its statement by affirming its respect for the ongoing investigations to accurately ascertain all circumstances, while ensuring the right of all parties to provide their testimonies.
