Atletico Madrid Decides on Griezmann and Alvarez's Departure
Wednesday 25-02-2026
Atletico Madrid is experiencing a crucial phase in the current season, after qualifying for the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League and preparing for the match to determine the finalist for the King's Cup in Barcelona next week, amid rumors of some team stars leaving.

Regarding Julian Alvarez, there were rumors linking him to Barcelona, but Atletico's management confirmed that they have not received any official offers. The club's sporting director, Mateo Alemany, stated during his appearance on Movistar: "Julian is an Atletico player, we have excellent players and there is interest from several clubs, but we have not talked to any party, whether presidential candidates or Barcelona or any other club."

As for Antoine Griezmann, there were reports of a potential move to Major League Soccer to join Orlando City before March 26, but club president Enrique Cerezo commented: "I was surprised by this news, Griezmann is an Atletico Madrid player and is very loved by our fans, he is an important player for the team and we see him having a clear impact in the recent matches."

Alemany added: "Griezmann is at Atletico Madrid and has a contract for two and a half years, we have no information about this news, and he is an important player for the club."

Regarding Diego Simeone, there were reports about him signing a pre-contract with Inter Milan, which would require ending his contract with Atletico Madrid until 2027. Alemany and Cerezo denied knowing about this, while Giuseppe Marotta, CEO of Inter Milan, described these rumors as completely fake news, confirming the Italian club's satisfaction with their current coach Cristian Chivu and his ability to lead the team successfully.

Despite Inter Milan's significant loss to Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League, the team, led by Chivu, tops the Italian league standings with a ten-point lead over second-placed Milan and has also qualified for the semi-finals of the Italian Cup to face Como, giving them a chance to compete for two titles this season.
