The American League Adopts Exceptional Decisions to Support Muslim Players During Ramadan
Thursday 19-02-2026
The Major League Soccer Association made a series of exceptional decisions to support Muslim players during the holy month of Ramadan.

The decisions included that before each match, clubs will inform league officials of the names of fasting players who will break their fast during the game.

A short break for drinks not exceeding 60 seconds was also approved, to be counted within the stoppage time at the end of the half in which the pause occurred.

Additionally, it was decided to delay the start of matches that coincide with the time of breaking the fast, to ensure that players can break their fast without affecting their performance.

This step is part of the efforts of Major League Soccer to enhance diversity and inclusion, and to respect the religious commitments of players during the season's competitions.
