Inter Miami secured a thrilling 2-2 draw against FC Cincinnati, with young Brazilian Riquelme Fillipi scoring a last-minute goal in the 90th minute during the match that took place early Thursday in the American soccer league, missing the chance to earn three crucial points in the race for second place in the Eastern Conference.

The match saw the Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez shine, giving the home side the lead with a stunning strike, before FC Cincinnati turned the score around by scoring two consecutive goals in the 80th and 86th minutes. Just when defeat seemed imminent, Riquelme Fillipi emerged in the final moments to secure a point for his team, in a match where Argentine star Lionel Messi was unable to leave his usual mark.

The early minutes saw few clear chances as both teams struggled with attacking effectiveness and made repeated errors, while Lionel Messi suffered from tight defensive marking that limited his threat throughout the match.

Inter Miami's captain attempted to threaten the opponent's goal with a shot from outside the box after half an hour, but it hit one of the defenders. Then, Brazilian Evander unleashed a long-range shot in the closing minutes of the first half, which went over the crossbar.

The goalless draw continued until the 61st minute, when Inter Miami managed to crack FC Cincinnati's defense. Rodrigo De Paul sent the ball to the left side, where it reached Casemiro, who passed it directly into the penalty area towards Suárez.

The Uruguayan forward skillfully handled the ball before unleashing a curled shot with his right foot that settled into the top corner of the net, putting the home side ahead by one goal.

Luis Suárez, aged 39, has raised his tally to 16 goals in 28 matches this season, confirming his ability to make a difference and regaining some of the outstanding levels he showcased during his career with FC Barcelona and Liverpool.

Despite David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, celebrating the goal from the stands, the hosts were unable to maintain their lead until the end of the match.

In the 80th minute, Frenchman Kévin Mbouma brought the match back to square one, unleashing a powerful and precise shot from the right side of the penalty area. Then, in the 86th minute, Ghanaian Samuel Gidi dealt another blow to Inter Miami by scoring FC Cincinnati's second goal with a long-range shot that put the visiting team on the brink of victory.

Riquelme Fillipi saves Inter Miami with a last-gasp goal.

Inter Miami refused to give up and managed to snatch an equaliser in the dying moments of the match, thanks to young Brazilian Riquelme Fillipi, who showcased impressive individual skill as he evaded the attention of two defenders before unleashing a stunning shot that found the same corner targeted by Suárez in his first goal.

Riquelme Fillipi's goal denied FC Cincinnati three points and saved the hosts from a loss that would have complicated their position in the race for second place in the Eastern Conference.

The Brazilian player joined Inter Miami last September from Palmeiras, making his presence felt with a crucial goal at a very important time.

A draw has hindered Inter Miami's ambitions.

Inter Miami remain two points behind New England Revolution in the race for second place in the Eastern Conference, a crucial position in the competition for qualification to the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

In contrast, Nashville SC has secured the top spot in the Eastern Conference during the regular season, after Inter Miami and New England Revolution lost their chances to catch up.

New England secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over New York Red Bulls, setting up a clash with Inter Miami next Sunday, in a match that falls within the final two rounds of the regular phase of the competition.

Lionel Messi returns to the starting lineup for Inter Miami, but his presence did not have the anticipated impact on the match.

Lionel Messi returned to the starting lineup for Inter Miami after beginning the previous match against New York Red Bulls on the bench, in a game that ended with his team losing away from home.

The Argentine star Rodrigo De Paul participated in the previous match after a limited rest, following his trip to Spain to receive the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, before returning to the starting lineup against FC Cincinnati.

Despite starting the match, Messi failed to deliver the expected performance as the opponent imposed tight defensive marking on him, shifting the spotlight to Suárez with his impressive goal, and Fillipi for his crucial intervention in the final minutes.
